FabLab Solidaire Mamiratra
Fab Lab Mamiratra (which is Malagashi for 'Bright') was opened in November 2015, inside an SOS Village Enfants (safe village for homeless children) in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
The lab was financed by Fondation Orange, and created in partnership with the Fab Foundation
We procured, shipped and installed a full Fab Lab in a central building in the village, setting up a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, large format CNC mill, small high precision mill, and various tools and consumables

We trained the local team on the use of all the machines, in the best way we know - making useful items for the newly created Fab Lab. We build furniture - stools and chairs to sit on, and tables to work on - and we created custom microcontroller boards compatible with the Arduino interface, to automate part of the space, and give them the agency to create their own embedded systems.
The lab was officially opened by government officials and several people from the Orange foundation, and handed over to the team at the SOS village enfants.
As you can see on their website, they are still going strong, fostering innovation and showing young learners the power to be the agents of their own future.
